About YaSheema

Losing Sight, Not Vision.

I’m YaSheema Marshall, MSW.

I’m a social worker, coach, educator, author, and advocate. My work is grounded in more than 30 years of professional experience in social work, mental health, and family support, as well as my lived experience navigating legal blindness.

I know that vision loss can touch far more than sight. It can reshape routines, relationships, identity, and the way we imagine the future. People deserve support that recognizes all of that without reducing them to a diagnosis or asking them to pretend it is easy.

Lived experience and professional practice

My Story

My professional life has been shaped by years of listening, supporting families, and helping people navigate difficult transitions. My own experience with legal blindness brings another perspective to this work: I understand that adjustments are personal, sometimes complicated, and never one-size-fits-all.

I bring those perspectives together with care, honesty, and a belief that a person's future can remain meaningful even when the path changes.

The purpose behind this work

Why Beyond Vision Exists

Beyond Vision Coaching was created to offer adults navigating blindness and low vision a place for emotional wellness, practical learning, and community support. We make room for grief, fear, and changing confidence while honoring resilience, self-determination, and new possibilities.

Our name reflects a truth I hold close: changes in sight do not take away a person's worth, vision for their life, or right to define what comes next.

How I work

My Approach

Honor the whole person

Your feelings, culture, relationships, goals, and lived experience belong in the conversation.

Go at your pace

Support should meet you where you are, without rushing grief or minimizing real barriers.

Make progress practical

We can explore meaningful goals, self-advocacy, confidence, and next steps that fit your life.

A note about credentials

I hold an MSW and have 30+ years of professional social work experience. Coaching is distinct from psychotherapy, clinical treatment, and medical services.

There is room for you here.

Wherever you are in the journey, we can begin with your questions, your priorities, and the kind of support you want.
